Breeze Ship Design acquires VarShyp Design
Norwegian Breeze Ship Design has acquired Varshyp Design Ltd in Varna, Bulgaria. The engineering company has in-house, first class skills within all fields required for ship design, marine engineering and marine consultancy – making it a strong addition to the Breeze Ship Design team.
“The process of acquiring Varshyp started last year, as a result of increased marked demand for Breeze Ship Design’s services – particularly related to zero emission projects. We were never in doubt about which company we wanted to invest in, as Varshyp has been a solid partner for us since our start-up and has delivered great performance. We already know the employees and the managing director very well, and that is a great outset for us as new colleagues” says Ove Wilhelmsen, Chief Executive Officer of Breeze Ship Design.
Stronger engineering capacity
The company’s new entity in Bulgaria will be named Breeze Ship Design Bulgaria OOD and its 20 employees will constitute a solid engineering hub in Varna in a long-term perspective.
“The expansion will strengthen Breeze Ship Design’s engineering capacity and bring increased synergy by combining business activities and diversifying work tasks between our offices in Norway and Bulgaria,” Wilhelmsen says.
“Our relationship with Breeze Ship Design in Norway has been solid from day one, where we have supported the company with our engineering services. This acquisition gives us an arena to provide high end engineering to an international market,” says Boyan Bonev, Manging Director of Breeze Ship Design Bulgaria.”
Front-runner in zero-emission shipping
Breeze Ship Design was established at Stord, Norway, in 2020. Although being a quite young company, it represents a unique and strong ship design legacy – combining expertise and experience from internationally renowned ship design environments with Breeze Ship Design’s access to the world’s most extensive design portfolio. This database provides insights from more than 4,000 vessels built worldwide – including some of the most environmentally advanced ships sailing today.
“This combination has made Breeze Ship Design a frontrunner in the race towards zero-emission shipping. We are currently working hands-on with design and projecting of several vessels that will operate on clean alternative fuels. In addition, we are also involved in CO2 capture and storage, designing two carriers for safe loading, transport, and offshore injection of CO2 with as low emissions as possible,” Wilhelmsen explains.
He says last year’s increased demand for ship design services continues into 2023.
“The market outlook is bright. There are many assignments to compete for, especially within zero-emission projects. Together with our new colleagues in Bulgaria, we have every intention of making our mark in all the vessel segments we operate in,” Wilhelmsen states.
